Recent(?) news:
2010.12.Sep - It seems my Telia server died a few months ago, so there might be some 404 links here and there. I'll try to fix them, but if you find one you can mail me and let me know because even though I'm the Dungeon Master around here, I still get lost in PSG's maze of twisty little passages. Anyways. I have updated Android Arts a bit and linked a bunch of pages. The pages mentioned in the last post were chopped up, because they were getting kind of heavy. I have also updated my profile on this site.
2010.28.Jul - The pages with Games and Stuff have been updated a bit. And the Misc section.
2010.05.Jul - I've been playing with Starguard miniatures.
2010.04.Jul - Some more scantily properly clad females. And a page for the Zoids project.
2010.23.Apr - A few new Daleks have invaded my Doctor Who page. Also updated: Games (Cave Story doodles, etc), Tribes (+Gloom at the bottom), Eyeborg Wars.
2010.24.Feb - The Kawaiik (Quake 1) project has lots of new rough concepts.
2010.22.Jan - I've put an new-ish isometric test image up on the RebelSquad page. The sloppy Doctor Who got some new content. See my blog for some more updates. ( I've put up lots of art on these two pages: Games, Stuff and more games. )
2009.8.Dec - Consolidated and cleaned up my Exile project. It's still a mess though. I started it in 2003 or so, then worked some more on it in 2005. This year I painted some pin-ups and played around with the Beeb version.
2009.9.Nov - Some new X-COM art on my RebelSquad page.
2009.24.Sep - Moved (and nibbled on) the M.U.L.E. project.
2009.27.May - I have updated the Master of Orion 1 project a bit.
2009.15.Feb - Xexyz project has been worked on (thank you translators!). I've posted updates on my Blog and on AndroidArts.com.
2008.7.Feb - I might start a Xexyz (NES) project, but not until I know what to work with. Just like with Blaster Master, the Japanese version has a very different story, and I can't read Kana... I did a little program which extracts the text strings so I put those up along with some screenshots here:
2007.dec.24 - Yule updates. Can you catch them all? Probably, because I've linked stuff properly now... or have I? I'm as lost as you! Also updated the Blog with nonsense.
2007.sep.4 - Kawaiik and concept art process tutorial (1mb!). I use Photoshop 5.5 with an A4 Wacom.
2007.sep.4 - The Art Tutorial page has been noodled upon. It had some pretty strange writing. Probably still has.
2007.may.29 - Utopia page update.
2007.feb.27 - Metroid:GFP updated with pixels and a SD style.
2007.jan.4 - StarFlight was a StarControl 'precursor' of sorts (1986). I've got some random concepts here. I also resumed my Zelda project, but kinda abandoned it again :G
2006.oct.5 - A new (slightly old) doodle here. Also, unfinished Rifts stuff.
2006.jul.19 - Updated here and there (potato, robotics, misc 1, misc games). There's also some new (quick and dirty) pages I'll have to link properly: M.U.L.E. | Utopia | DragonQuest | Metroid:GFP | Frontier Elite papermodels
2006.jan.11 - Linked some unlinked stuff on the StarControl page. Some new Paradoid sketches. And yes, Battalion Wars bla bla . hmmm yes a while ago I sneaked in some stuff in the potato section I think.
2005.august.25 - Just a quick notice: The Flying Spaghetti Monster I painted (yeah yeah Michelangelo too) is pretty much free to use for press and such as far as I'm concerned. I have a wallpaper jpeg version and a raw tif version (rightclick to DL, 1mb) . Unfortunately I don't have a high resolution version.

If you wonder what the FSM is, you can take a look at www.venganza.org. I have a gmail account for contact, but you have to solve the rebus I made (to shake spambots, plus I like the Diglett Pokémon).

(Changed layout a tad.)
2005.mars.11 - Potato comics are up again. Linked some unlinked stuff like the exile project.
2005.januari.27 - I've uploaded a WIP of my long due tutorial. Take it with a grain of salt, it has some severe typos still and might be confusing. Link.
2005.januari.19 - We landed on Titan a few days ago, it didn't look like I thought it would. Here's some thoughts on box design.
2005.januari.11 - Updated RetroGame fanart and linked under Misc games. Argh. Site is still a mess.
2004.november.6 - Updated the Space thing further. Not much other to report, other than the sad fact that that the least rational people seem to have the most motivation.
2004.september.27 - New geeky project again: Space thing. I went on a shopping spree and got a color laser, backup HD and UPS. Furthemore, here's the rpg I did 2 covers for, and greyscale interior art for the core book.
2004.september.12 - New project: Boulder Dash clone.
2004.september.3 - Rest in Peace, Moses.
2004.august.1 - Some of my RetroGame fanart temporarily arranged on a page.
2004.july.23/25 - Seems my hotmail has reached its absolute limit. I got a new Gmail however. Yeah that's two T's. New smileys.
2004.june.4 - Seems like Firefox and IE has different opinions on font-sizes. I think I fixed it. Also updated the misc section.
2004.may.30 - Zelda stuff and DragonMech. DragonMech is a SteamPunk RPG I did art for (maybe 100 B/W pics or so).
2004.apr.11 - I'm a tad busy, so I'm sorry if I neglect my inbox and stuff. Also, I'm currently trying out Mozilla:Firefox, and noticed that my CSS is a little off in that browser, which I will have to deal with later. Quite nice browser though.
The Hellboy flick got to me aswell, so here's my HEL-BOY comic for those of you that are mature enough to read it and immature enough to enjoy it: [Page: 1 | 2]
Furhermore, DUCK!

HERE BE CONTENT

Welcome! This is the homepage and art portfolio of a certain Niklas Jansson, which happens to be me! I draw a lot of monsters, robots and stuff. I have zero patience and too many projects.

» Information bits

Profile - A little information about me, my hobbies, my favourite games, plus a FAQ.

» Tutorials

Art Tutorial - This is what I've got so far on my tutorial. I forgot about fog/atmospheric perspective.
How I work - Hey is that Painter? has gotta be one of the most frequent questions I get.
Borg drone - Acrylic pinup of a borg. It's nice to get back to acrylics every now and then.

» Loose pictures

Work gallery - A selection of various freelance work I've done. Heavy DL.
Robotics - Robots and mechs are fun to draw, so I draw them! Surprise!
Misc. epI - I can't sort everything into categories, so here it is, the miscellaneous gallery, episode I.
Misc. epII - This episode - special feature: The attack of the atomic mutant mice!
Misc. epIII - What? Who? Me? Using redundant shapes and designs? Noooh, nevah! ;)
Misc. EpIV - I got junk in other sections aswell, but this gallery get all the unsortable stuff.
Potato comics - I made these comics in highschool with a friend. The trick is to grab the pen as badly as you can, and avoid using the brain at all.
Photos - I have a digital camera that I snap shots with occasionaly, mostly bugs and astronomy.

» Original projects

These are my own projects.

Robotrek - A comic project I started but haven't finished. It's about some robots an a human in a post apocalyptic enviroment.
Battle Commander - A tabletop strategy game.
Smileys - It's Smileys!

In the works: My DemonGate RPG setting. Steampunk space opera setting. Some comics. Some games.

» Derived projects

I have many projects where I try to expand and elaborate on various game universes. Games can be so much more than just the gameplay and the player passively experiencing a story. I don't give two shits about Luke or the Princess (except when she's in the metal bikini), what I want to see is the universe and the inhabitants. Luke was always more of a tour guide to me. I think the reason why Star Wars worked so well was because people could keep the universe actively running in their head after the movie was over. I'd like games to do the same thing. Here I try to make them:

Rebel Squad - Rebelstar, Laser Squad and X-COM

Super Planetary War Chronicles : Metafight

The Guardian Legend

Kid Icarus - Still WIP.

Zelda 1 - Just an image so far, still need to gather all the material I've done.

DragonQuest - One of my fav RPGs, maybe.

M.U.L.E. - Great multiplayer game with fun aliens.

Utopia - Early RTS/SIM game for the Amiga

Kawaiik - Quake 1 goes Kawaii.

Rifts - Some kind of RPG I decided to draw some designs from quite randomly.

Doctor Who - I've got a lot of more stuff for this project but got distracted and dropped the ball.

Star Trek ships | Star Trek gear - Based on the TOS era. Still need to gather up my material and make a page.

Frontier Elite papermodels - Amiga version.

In the works: Whitehead Zoids! And a boatload of stuff I've forgot I'm working on.

Metroid 1 - I frequently (almost yearly) draw all the characters and monsters appearing in this game.
MegaMan - Yeah, what can I say, another of my favourite games, or should I say series? Again, what you see is only a fraction of the things I've done. Fight, MegaMan, for everlasting peace!
Exile - Despite being around 15 years old and relatively unknown, this game still has many features that make most modern games look like tic tac toe.
Paradroid - I am a big fan of the Amiga version, not so much of the C64 version.
It's remarkable how no game developer have used a similar concept. Everyone are busy cloning BF-42 and CS I guess.
Space Conquest - A GBA turn based strategy game I don't have the patience to work on. There's hardly no strategy games on handhelds and I'd like to see some.
Misc games - Blaster master, Kid icarus, Zelda, Mario, Pokémon and others get a space here.
Star Control - Star Control RTS game, pretty huge project.
Adventures of Rockwell - A Boulder Dash clone.
Quake 1 - This is one of my favourite games. I've done quite a lot of fanart, redesigns, Quake C mods, textures and maps for it over the years.
StarWars - It's always fun to draw stuff from a known universe. I really enjoy building on established designs, elaborating with the shapes whilst trying to keep a consistant look on the designs (something the new movies failed with in my opinion).
FSM - The Flying Spaghetti Monster which I painted (yeah yeah, Michelangelo too) is pretty much free to use for press and such as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately I do not have a high resolution version of this painting!
