"The
Human Figure: an Anatomy for Artists" by David K. Rubins:
hands down my favorite book on life drawing. it breaks down
all the parts of the body from all four sides; starting from
the bone, then muscle, and then finally with the skin. buy this
book!
"Constructive
Anatomy" by George Bridgeman: everyone recommends his
books and rightfully so. Bridgeman's books are great for breaking
down the body into simplified shapes and locking them together
in very dynamic ways. i only recommend this book after getting
the Rubins book above because Bidgeman's books aren't always
the most comprehensive as far as how muscles connect.
"Bridgman's
Life Drawing" by George Bridgeman: another great Bridgeman
book. pretty much just more of what's in the previous book.
but this book has more full body drawings where as the previous
concentrates more on the parts.
"Batman:
Animated" by Paul Dini, Chip Kidd, and Bruce Timm:
a beautiful documentary of Bruce Timm and company's groundbreaking
animated series, Batman the animated series. form and structure
shaved down to it's simplest. the style makes SO much sense!
"The
Art of Star Wars : Episode I : The Phantom Menace" by Jonathan
Bresman: wasn't a huge fan of the movie but this book is
great! full of awe inspiring color and marker conceptual art
mostly by Doug Chiang and Ian McCaig. if you're interested in
background, prop, and character designs, this is the book.
